Lowlands is
the Netherlands' top alternative music festival, attracting around 55,000
people every year. It is held at the Walibi World theme park in
Biddinghuizen in the centre of the Netherlands in the lowlands of
Flevopolder. Have fun pronouncing those names, English-speakers!
It's a
festival of culture, not just music, and has an expansive programme of films,
theatre performances, stand up comedy, video art and street performances as
well as a line up of the top bands and DJ's from around the world playing over
8 stages.
The 2010 line up already boasts Massive attack, Pendulum, NOFX, Placebo, Queens of the stoneage and Snow Patrol.
The
festival has six fully equiped campsites with hot showers and a
supermarket. There are also various restaurants, a big market, chillout
rooms, sports facilities and a local radio station. In their words it's
"Glasto meets Goa". In mine, it's techno meets thrash metal
with tent pegs.
